The result is the new mirrorless camera of the Micro Cuatro Tercios system, which, like its predecessors of the PEN family, strives for “elegant design” as well as “quality – oriented and creative control in small size”. It is logical that the new Olympus PEN E-PL9 is equipped with some new features, but mainly aimed at providing a better user experience via the touch screen and offering the user an easier way to express his creativity in a simple way the new one Camera.
As a successor to the PEN E-PL8, the new model was designed for “people who want to get into photography without complications with reflex devices”. Therefore, the company has been working to use “complicated menus for use” (always according to Olympus) and to progressively perform photographic experiments by first selecting the creative options on the touchscreen before switching to the more traditional ones.
In this sense, it is also new to incorporate a new way of use called Advanced Photo , ” for faster access to creative options “, as well as the new artistic filters ‘Instant’ and ‘ Bleach Bypass ‘. In fact, from Olympus they say ” to be pioneers in artistic filters, allowing now that they can be applied from the touch screen, making it easier than ever to check the effects of the filters live “.
Outwardly, there are no major changes to its predecessor as it maintains a compact size and light weight (just over 300 grams) and some design lines that have been known for years, and continues its commitment to an elegant finish of leather and metal parts. Of course, the tiltable and foldable touch screen has been preserved to facilitate selfies (the pen was one of the first to offer this function), and the most important change is the incorporation of an integrated flash, a novelty in the PEN family.
Its image sensor is the familiar 16-megapixel CMOS, which already had its predecessor (although it was most likely updated), but the processor itself is new or more in the PEN range because it is the same TruePic VIII used by the professional OM -D E-M1 Mark II. Also new is the AF system with 121 points (the first was 81), some of which work “in groups for a more differentiated motion detection and a higher focus accuracy”.
Also noteworthy are the built-in stabilization of three axes and 4K 30p quality video recording, which now includes options for extracting photos from the videos (we expect other brands to offer them). Also new is the inclusion of low power Bluetooth (which accompanies WiFi connectivity) to always have the camera connected and to facilitate the transfer of images, even when turned off.
