New compact cameras from Nikon

Yes, they still exist, the classic compact cameras. Of course, smartphones have outpaced the rather cheap compact cameras in recent years, but just Nikon and Canon still have some current models on offer.

Nikon was able to celebrate even a small success in the field of compact cameras recently, as it was in this area in 2018 for the first time conquer more market share than Canon . Nikon apparently also wants to defend the top position, because with the A1000 and the B600, the manufacturer has recently introduced two new compact cameras.

Nikon Coolpix A1000

The Coolpix A1000 (pictured above) is a travel zoom camera that features a 1 / 2.3-inch CMOS sensor with a resolution of 16 megapixels. This is a little less than the predecessor A900, which is rather an advantage than a disadvantage with this sensor size. The zoom range extends from 24 to 840mm, with light intensity starting at f / 3.4 in the wide-angle range and extending to f / 6.9 in the telephoto range.

New is the electronic viewfinder, which dissolves with 1.166 million pixels and has to offer a 0.5-fold magnification. Of course, the viewfinder is not a technical highlight, but still better than no EVF at all. The viewfinder is supported by the resolution of 1.04 million pixels touch screen, which can also be folded 180 degrees down.

4K videos can also be recorded with the A1000, in Full HD you can shoot at 60 frames per second. The most important technical data are rounded off by an optical image stabilizer, snapbridge, WLAN, RAWs and a battery life of 250 shots. From the end of January, the Nikon A1000 should be available for a price of 450 euros.

The Nikon Coolpix B600 comes in the DSLR design therefore, waived in contrast to the A1000 on a viewfinder, but covers it for a larger focal length range. Concretely, the lens converts to a small image 24 to 1,440mm, but the light intensity is not overly impressive here with f / 3.3 to f / 6.5.

The screen of the B600 is permanently installed, resolves with 921,000 pixels and has an anti-reflective coating. The CMOS sensor dissolves as with the A1000 with 16 megapixels, but you have to do without the B600 on 4K videos. In addition, full HD videos are also recorded at a maximum of 30 frames per second. After all, the camera is in terms of connectivity to the latest state.

The Nikon Coolpix B600 should be available from February 2019 for the price of 360 euros.
