Leica M10-P “ASC 100 Edition”, a special version of the Leica M designed for filmmakers and in homage to the world of cinema
The renowned German brand surprises us from time to time with very special editions of their cameras. This is the case of the Leica M10-P “ASC 100 Edition“, a version of the Leica M10-P telemetry with the Leica Summicron M 35 f / 2 ASPH optic, which they created as a tribute to the cinema the centenary of the American Society of Cinematographers (the oldest film association in the world, founded in 1919).
As you can see, the design of the camera has been reduced to the basics (and the M10-P already praised discreetly and quietly), with a chrome housing predominantly in black and a coating resembling the Leica SL. The reason that the Leica Summicron-M 35 f / 2 ASPH optic is golden in color, responds to the fact that it is a “modern interpretation of the original vision of Oskar Barnack in the Ur-Leica” with which this tone a reinterpretation would be of the brass in which the lens of the 1914 camera was painted.
On the other hand, this photographic set includes two accessories . The first one is the Leica Visoflex electronic viewfinder and the second one is the Leica M-PL adapter to be able to mount the ” almost all ” camera with the PL mount available on the market.
The camera allows you to select the different aspect ratios that are used in the world of cinema through the camera menu. In addition, once activated you can see on the screen (in Live View mode ) the final aspect ratio with a frame delimited by a bright line. In this way, always according to Leica, the camera allows filmmakers and cinematographers to see and evaluate the scenes with any lens before starting to shoot.
Price and availability
The Leica M10-P ‘ASC 100 Edition’ will be available starting in the fall of 2019 at a price yet to be determined (although in the case of Leica it will be a high number).
